Overview

Ancient Falasarna was a key port city in western Crete.Founded in the 6th century BC, it flourished during the Hellenistic era.It was famous for its strategically engineered artificial harbor.The harbor was fortified, ideal for both trade and naval purposes.\n\rThe city included temples, warehouses, houses, and fortification walls.Ruins of a temple dedicated to the goddess Diktynna have been found.Other remains include cisterns, ancient roads, and dock facilities.\n\rToday, the port lies 9 meters above sea level due to seismic uplift.The site offers panoramic views and a strong historical atmosphere.Admission is free, and access is via a dirt road.
