Overview
The Kourtaliotiko Gorge, one of the most impressive natural landscapes of Crete, is a paradise for nature and adventure lovers. It is located in the south of the Prefecture of Rethymnon and extends over an area with rich vegetation, steep rocks and waterfalls.The gorge has a long history, as it has been formed by the erosion of the rocks by the waters of the Kourtaliotis River. The name of the gorge comes from the sound produced by the pebbles of the river as they roll through it.
